Subject: More about Stooge walnut cabinets

OK, I learned again. There is more interest in this than I had anticipated.
I got some great ideas from some of you too. So, please keep those coming.
Here is some of the feedback / questions I got:
1 - offer them unfinished so people can finish to their own taste.
A - OK, but remember Walnut is dark. You don't stain it. You simply put
urethane or other finish on it and it turns dark. But, I would be happy to
offer finished and unfinished. Some like glossy, some like satin. Paint
them and I'll haunt you after I die.
2 - Will 19" rack stuff fit a 12U optiion?
A - Well not exactly. Maybe one of the width options should be "rack size"
so Paul's rack rails could still be used and those of you mounting that way
could stay with your rails and avoid flat rails. I did not get too much
back on standard sizes for width. I am no leaning for 24U, 18U, 12U and
rack size because that fits all the existing rails being sold. Opinions??
Maybe we don't need the 12U wide option.
3 - Power supply opitions?
A - The back will be set up to accept a standard MOTM power supply. In
fact, you will be able to mount both the existing 900 and new 950 if needed
in a larger cabinet. Maybe down the road we can do a Stooge power switch
panel for the front that turns on both supplies (if people want that).
4 - Deep enough for Blacet conversions?
A - Well heck yes. The exception would be maybe no Blacet depth modules
right in front of the power supply.
5 - Slant which way?
A - You put them togeher. How do you want them to slant?
6 - How many $$
A - I simply don't know yet. The idea is to bring down the shipping cost
and cabinet cost by letting you put them together. But, I am also working
on a custom manufactured box that will fit a 2 row X 24 U wide assembled
cabinet into a UPS size container. However, my goal was not to sell
assembled.
7 - Solid walnut?
A - Yes. Laminate is really a better choice for strength and such. But, I
am planning the traditional walnut cabinet.
I do appreciate the comments and show of support for another Stooge, Inc.
product. (subliminal message: buy more SKB backs). I will be talking to the
woodworker soon and looking at cost and what types of joints will be used.
I need to figure out what joints work best for DIYers. Something better than
Sauder style screw together stuff. Do you guys think buying / borrowing
pipe clamps for glueing joint sounds reasonable, or do you prefer something
that goes together with a screwdriver?
I am planning the Moog style where the top and bottom edges that show are
thin like they are on the dot com cabinets. Basically, we are talking the
same design used for Paul's NAMM cabinets in a more affordable kit form.
I'll post photos soon.

P.S. If you want to hear Paul sigh deeply, ask him how much it cost to Fed
EX 2-day air two 75 lb cabinets from Indiana to California.
