That's not necessarily a bad thing...

Actually the delay time in the MXRs I've got goes up to around 5ms or so,
and sweeps back down to a hair above 1ms. I can't remember whether the chips
are 512s or 1024s; it's been awhile since I had the cover off and the 'scope
probes in it.

Newbie question: what do you use in the Time Machine as the delay element? I
don't have one yet. I've wondered whether you were able to scrounge up a
batch of Reticon chips or something.
