A little while ago there was some discussion about a future cs80-like
filter module. I don't have access to a cs80. What is it about this
filter that makes it 'appealing' (apart from it being imbedded in the
cs80 machine)?

Well, the sound<g>! If you've ever listened to a CS-80, you know it
has this very warm, organic tone. Some of this (but not all) is due
to the filters. They prevent you from going to extremes of resonance,
and play in the subtler realm of tones. Some filters don't have a lot
of character until you crank the resonance: the CS-80 filters do.
If you haven't listened closely to a CS-80, try to listen to the
Bladerunner soundtrack. Here are some links to a few other sounds:

down past the preset tones to the user tones and listen to those).
