In all honesty, the above-quoted post could have also been sent in private
email to only Moe and myself.
At least our posts were on topic, and mentioned that the pdf motm catalog
and the motm website contained different information. When I first
s∗bscribed to the list, none of the posts had anything to do with motm.
While I cannot speak for other listmembers, I don't mind chatty posts as
long as they are on topic.
The welcome message states: "This list is dedicated to the MOTM
synthesizer. Topics dealing with the use, assembly, modification, etc of
the MOTM modules are considered on topic. Please keep other threads in
other forums."
As a person who runs several mailing lists on different servers, I share
your concerns about traffic and keeping the list on topic. However, in
order to do this, the list administrator must declare their policy and be
willing to enforce that policy. Both are necessary.
If we are concerned about accidental traffic, there should not be a
"Reply-To:" field set to the list address. This setting can be changed at
the yahoogroups site.
Adding links to various websites and other text to the bottom of each
message can be done quite easily at the yahoogroup website. Yahoogroups
also provides space for the list to have its own page, which could contain
a brief FAQ, and an even more extensive website listing. Paul could also
add a link to the list's page from his page.
