Yes, but most problems can be diagnosed without doing that. Personally, I never found those logic plugs to be very useful. A multimeter and an oscilloscope are the two most important troubleshooting tools. Just my opinion.

Have not had a chance yet to try the comparator mode..  I assume that's the method where you plug a known working IC into the tester so you can check between the control IC and the one being tested.

The kit came with 20+ IC sockets that you can customize the pins/legs in any order and as many as needed to isolate the pins you are after to diagnose.

I wonder if there's a simple way to slow down the P800's clock so you can observe states that change too fast to be observable.

Have you tested out it's logic comparator mode?

I suppose you would go around a working P-800 and write down all the logic states and compare those to a non working P-800 at the same locations for identifying faults, or guess states by referencing schematics.

I think it's possible to remove the plastic shroud on the test clip to help with access but you would need a more steady hand in use if attaching while powered.

I used to have an HP 1052a and associated logic pulser.

Subject: [korgpolyex] FLUKE TRENDAR 200 IC Test Clip

I thought this might be worth having discussion over.

Ever see a Fluke 200 IC Test Clip?
I stumbled across one recently and got it for next to nothing.

Here's a vid of mine I did with it attached to IC 19 on my working Poly 800

http://youtu.be/dbNxbDUKIoU

The set/kit I have with this also includes an extension cable with clip on the end for tighter spaces.  Most of the chips in the Korg cannot be accessed like I show in the vid with the main clip directly attached.
Most of them need the extension cable.
Unfortunately the ext. cable in my set is damaged.  I'll have to fab up a new clip using one of my extra 14pin DIP Clips.

Anyone ever see these before?  Think they would be much good for diagnosing problems with the Poly 800 and/or other vintage synths?
