Subject: Re: Possible joystick replacement?

To make things easier, you would need a Poly800 joystick board to hook up to a EX800.
The joystick in the poly 800 has a small PCB circuit that has a few components on it and requires + and -5v supplies.

Point is, you cant just take any joystick and just plug it into an ex800.. you'll need to rob a poly for it's joystick PCB, or you'll need to recreate the PCB's circuit.

This also means the same for a poly 800. You must have that PCB in place and working.
If you lose your -5v to this PCB, then the bender/modstick wont function properly.. it may halfway work though..

My original joystick is giving me some issues.. but it's mechanical.
The union shafts to the pots are slipping internally.
It can also turn/slip and catch.. thus holding a pitch bend down or a mod up/down. Making it not shut off a modulation or a bend.

not much I can do about it short of taking the entire thing apart, desolder the pot, pull it off and reglue the shaft inside it.

I never did like the joystick setup. I'd rather have a wheel bender for pitch.

The potentiometers have a centre position that I think bypasses the pot. If the stick isn't centreing properly it can cause drifting. The pots themselves are very good quality and would probably just need a clean. Scratchiness shouldn't be much of a problem as the pot doesn't really effect the audio it's just a control signal I believe.
