Subject: [korgpolyex] Poly800 Vs Poly800MK2

From: Jill Saphic <jill_saphic@...>

hello!
Ive heard them both in the same room at the same time.
The green one and the black one.
The Mark I is louder, and has more low-low mids.
And it's bass patches were very noticably thicker sounding.
Also, the number of useful patches is a lot better on that Mark 1.
The chorus being a programmable parameter is super important
to the foundation of the sounds in the first place, especially strings,
some of those OB horn sounds, The EP sounds,
and that wicked cello sound it has. and those two part sounds,
like the ones that start as a bell, then morph onto a bowed string,
and the Sound FX using the noide generator need that chorus.
But using the solo sounds on the Mark 2 was more fun with its
delay turned way up. 2 bad they didn't just add the delay in the Mark
2 instead of replacing the chorus with it. THAT would have been something!!!

Maybe because the MK2 has a digital delay effect they had to reduce the volume to reduce the chance of clipping? You wouldn't have this problem with the analogue chorus in the same way maybe.

Hi,

i made a A/B between my Mk2 and a friends V1 poly800, setting up the same value for all parameters, chorus/delay off, i get a very big difference of level output, my MK2 sounds a lot lower and thinner. The V1 has a filter cut off and res potard added to it, but that's the only mod i think that was done to it.
Anybody ever did a A/B on unmodified ones? do you think it's normal?

best
K
