Subject: Atomahawk Progress

Atom and all,

The FM-800 mod works absolutely beautifull. I have it under EG3 control and LFO MG as well.

The 12/24db filter slope switch works exactly as it should.

The Moog Slayer is still being looked at because from what I can tell the Moog Slayer is basically just extreme resonance with self oscillation. It turns out that Korg really went cheap on the resonance parameter because they use a range of 0-15 but the actual resoluation is 8 bits so it is conceivable to control the thing in a range of 0-255. So my testing is based around the idea of increasing the resolution of the resonance parameter (and thus the MIDI controller too) such that the Moog Slayer will be a mod that simply requires tuning up the existing trimpot and expanding the parameter control to be 0-99.

Now, to complicate things even further, I need to remap all of the new parameters and improve the LFO controls and implement the SLFO's along with the new FM-800 and Moog Slayer EG and LFO modulations.

The result is that the last software release that came out yesterday is the last release before the BIG changes that will include all of the new parameters for the Atomahawk kit. And, as I've said a few weeks ago, I won't be rushing to get the Atomahawk finished until I see quite a few more HAWK-800 kits go out the door.

Just to give you an idea of what the new HAWK-800 and AtomaHawk controls are proposed to look like - check out the proposed list of extended parameters. You will see that there will be two SLFO's and modulation off DCO, VCF, FM-800 and Resonance will all be highly controllable from multiple sources. To do this requires a total rewrite of the modulation code - which is underway. And it also requires completely remapping all of the extended parameters and dispensing with a couple. Such a huge rearrangement means that anyone saving patches now will have problems when the new software comes out with remapped parameters. So that is another reason why I am not releasing any more updates until the remapping and all of these new modulation modes are implemented.

status report on phase 2? the much rumored Atom-o-Hawk?

anyone else waiting for that before making the plunge?
