Hi,

I've got an old Poly 800 Mk 1 from which I bought about 10 years
ago. A long time ago I managed to connect it up to an Amiga via midi
which totally wiped out all the sounds. Eventually with the advent
of the internet I managed to get some sound banks downloaded and
transferred them to minidisc in order to attempt to reload the sounds.

Now, impatient as I am, I didn't bother to go and get a new correct
power supply, just thought I'd use what I had around the house. I
managed to find a 9V PSU from another keyboard. Didn't realise it
was giving out 1A current though. A black cloud of smoke issued from
my Poly 800.

I realise it's probably beyond repair, and I've been in touch with
another guy who has done the same thing and he reckons I'd need a new
board which you can no longer get hold of...

Anyway, my question, and it's a long shot: Does anyone know of a way
I can salvage this? I'd even just like to use it as a midi
controller, bypassing the sound generation part of it. Has anyone
out there got this sort of detailed knowledge to lend me a hand?

Thanks in advance for any advice, no matter how small :)

Rich
