Subject: Re: [korgpolyex] The new chord mode

All those years and I never knew that you could use the Hold mode to change the chord played. I guess maybe I should have read the user manual more than once back in 1983.

I have already set up MIDI CC's for poly, chord, hold and portamento modes.

So it seems like we're back in business.

Mike,

Sorry but exactly this is how the Chord Memory mode should work and works on
Korg instruments, so this is not something new. Somehow you returned normal
function of this mode. And IMHO you should leave it like it is because this
has sense - you can build any two voice interval or chord up to 8 notes (in
single OSC mode), be it consonant or dissonant, with any intervallic
structure, and play them with one finger as pipe organ mixture. I love this
feature and have used it a lot many years ago with Polysix, Poly 800 and
Poly 61.

This is OK on Poly 800 but still there's not solved how to implement this
great feature on EX800 without dedicated buttons. Maybe you could implement
a parameter which will decide if user wants to use internal sequencer or
Chord Memory function. In Sequencer mode buttons will work as before, in
Chord Memory mode sequencer Step button can work as Hold, and Start/Stop
button as Chord Memory On/Off. Or Bank Hold button can work as Hold button.
Or maybe you can reprogram the function of Program Up jack on the back
panel. Then connected footswitch could work this way:
- first press = Hold mode
- second press = Chord Memory mode (will memorize notes set-up in Hold mode
and play them monophonically)
- third press = Chord Memory mode off, return to the normal operation

Additionally it would be possible to use MIDI CC 69 = Hold for Hold
function, and following this any other not defined MIDI CC for activating
and deactivating the Chord Memory mode, for example 80, 81, 82, 83 or 70 or
any from 102 to 119. This will enable controlling this excellent feature
even from external sequencer and change the memorized chord whenever
necessary. Of course it means to set-up total volume to zero during Hold
mode when selecting notes, not to disturb played song. That would be great,
will you please consider it?

All the best!
