Well, your idea got me thinking so I quickly dropped the lookup table
values into excel and created histograms of the table values and I see
a linear graph, what appears to be a logarithmic or perhaps an
exponential but no sine wave anywhere to be seen. So I wonder if the
MG is a sine in the first place. Maybe it's just a kludge.
