Subject: Backup Battery - diode/resistor removal?

From: Jerry Jai <jjai_01@...>
Date: 2007-05-15

I'm a new Poly 800 MK-I owner and new to the group.

I just installed a backup battery to my MK-I by
soldering a button cell (CR2530?) to the empty solder
pads on the main board, and it seems to work fine even
though I didn't remove the diode/resistor network
(D1/R1) as the instructions on this list and on the
web seem to call for.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's necessary to
remove them? Will not removing them cause damage,
battery leakage, etc?

My basic electronics knowlege deduces that D1/R1 is a
voltage limiting circuit - it appears to limit voltage
going from the main cells/backup battery to the memory
chip to 5V (?). If that's true, I don't see a need to
remove D1/R1 when installing the backup cell.

Can someone with more electronics knowledge or a
better understanding of the Poly confirm/deny this?

Thanks!
