Subject: Re: broken keys ??

Well, i had a couple of dead keys on my poly, with nothing visibly
wrong with them (inside or out), so after doing what you did (taking
the thing apart and cleaning it, disassembling the board,
reassembling it, etc.) and verifying that the rubber contact strips
did actually trigger sounds when pressed directly (though not when
hit via a key) here's what i did: took off the rubber contact strips
that were under the offending keys, reversed them (i.e. rotated them
left to right), and reinstalled them. Worked like a charm.

my theory is that the contact strips get compressed in a very
specific, funny way with repeated use, and rotating them left to
right puts relatively unused sections of the strip under the key
trigger posts, allowing them to depress the contacts properly again.
Unfortunately, if you have cleaned the contacts, and still verified
that the offending strips are completely dead (i.e. don't trigger
notes when depressed directly), this fix will prolly not work for
you. Good luck, tho!!!
