Subject: Cleaning Poly 800

I had a spare Poly 800 loitering in my closet. It made horrible wheezing sounds when powered on. I pulled it out a couple of days ago and cracked it open. Gotta love the simple clamshell design of these things. I have worked on some other MI devices that are a terror just to get open. Anyway all it took was adjusting the trimpot to the far left to get it working again. It appears to regulate the voltage flowing to the cpu and other ICs. Too far counterclockwise and it just shuts off, midway through th rotatin it wheezes, farther up and it functions fine.
I also went about dissassembling the data entry assembly before I figured out you dont have to, to clean the contacts. There are little holes behind each contact. So I just dribbled a little DeOxit into each one and now all the buttons work great! Now that this is my best working 800 I think I'll mod the other one because it has a totally chewed up exterior.
