It is safe, I followed those instructions and worked flawlessly, and the synth is still alive after a lot of months :) It's like having another synth. Instead of cutting the legs I removed the soldering iron in one of the legs and added heat-shrink tubing so I can revert it in case of problems. But it is working without any issue :)
