Hi,
First thanks to all suggestions for the labeling. Since so many people
asked me about the white noise mod here's how to do it:
There's a few things you need for this mod:
- wires
- Potentiometer according to resistor-strength labelled on VR3
- Tester Cables (since I'm not really an electronic specialist and just
check out what's the right connection through these)
SEARCH & FIND:
- first find the VR3 on your Poly-Mainboard
- read what's printed on it
- the print on the VR gives information about which potentiometer to
choose
- on my VR3 it said "1MB", which means the poto should be 1MegaOhm
logarithmicaly. My friendly electronic parts dealer told me that if
the "B" stood after the number it means logarithmic if else linear
- values on VRs may differ from machine to machine
DRILL:
- remove the joystick-contoller-board
- Drill another hole for your new poti (Mine's next to the cutoff)
- solder wires to the 3 pins of the poti long enough to reach to the VR3
- fix the potentiometer in the new drilled hole, let the wires look out
DAMAGE:
- Once you've found the VR3 break it off
- Be carefull not to break off the 3 pins underneath the VR3 - they're
needed afterwards
- the VR is damaged fatally in this prozess and can not be used hence
CONNECT:
- Connect wires to the tester-cables
- Connect tester-cables to the 3 pins
- (∗1) Switch on Poly 800 (I closed mine before that-otherwise the
testing becomes difficult)
- Switch to parameter 33, put it to value 15 and see if playing with
the potentiometer leads to any results
- If not, switch off Poly, reopen it, change the place of the tester
cables to the pins, and retry as shown in ∗1
- repeat this procedure until you get some results
- pay especial attention to the direction the potentiometer turns
(I soldered mine in the wrong direction first, so max. was min. and
vice versa)
SOLDER:
- After having the right connection, solder the cables thusly
- Be careful about it
FINISH:
- After soldering close Poly-Case and have fun with your new White
Noise Potentiometer
All information about this was taken from:
http://www.memi.com/makers/hwsw/basteln/poly800_mod.htmlThere are informations about other VRs on the Poly as well:
VR1 - DCO Pitch adjust
VR2 - VCF Frequency adjust
VR3 - White Noise level adjust
VR4 - DCO Fine tune adjust
VR5 - VCF resonance adjust
Maybe all of these can be "modded"
Cheers,
beloc
