it was the msq 1 or 10 in 1985 I had one that was midi a roland device very limited on getting a groove. I never used any of the dcb stuff roland had for midi like. W0orse sequencer in the world. thank gawd for the mc series and the alesis which came out and revolutionaloised music till laptops and the revolution of 1996 cakewalk etc.Till then we were not enjoying midi as much....The rx 5 is a big ass drum machine. The R8 is cool if you have the electronic drum card. Wish they would put more note memory in it....
Funny the rolands are quite warm. SO are the korgs. I seem to like em both. To each there own. Cool you got the reverse keys setup....I have one poly 800 full moog slayer potted by a very good tech friend i reccomend that for anyone really spices it up once you set up all the patches right .....
Msq 80 wish i could remember the first midi box i did use...I was like shit. Then we got the mc series the mc 300 and 500 before the alesis.....
Peace
Alien

Not true. They did a black sequencer called DSQ back
in the 80's. I own the DDD-1, Poly 800 reverse, DW
8000, 01/W. I adore this setup, although I own various
other synths and drum machines, but this 12bit machine
(DDD-1) rocks. The only one (I know) capable of
competing is (also mine) Yamaha RX5, but it's the same
thing, 12bit (I don't like Rolands, I have the R8 and
the TR626, and the SPD11. The sounds are pretty
natural (except the TR626, which sounds like a baby
toy), and that's exactly what I don't like about
them!), so I use the Yamaha RX11 and Korg DDD-1 almost
all the time. When I need REALLY natural sounds I use
the 16-layer Battery studio kits, translated into
Ensoniq EPS 16+ (capable of 16+ layering, can you
believe the coincidence?! :))) and it sounds much
better then any Roland, anyway....
