Oh. I have two of these, this means a return flight Frankfurt - Bangkok. I have to think about it.

To be honest: The riot-shield-cymbal-pad was first introduced for SDSV cymbal. The bell and the bow had two piezos, and there was some kind of rectifyer circuitry in it making it possible to have two sounds, a bell sound and a cymbal sound out of ONE MODULE (the digital cymbal). This was a genious idea, but the realised product was very poor.
Mounted on a cymbal stand, the pad was rotating all the time while being hit. I always taped the XLR plug to the stand to get rid of this effect. The play feeling was simply terrible, the dynamic possibilities also. What else can I say: The crosstalk between bell section and bow section, no, you don't want to know anything about this. The 3 main plastic parts of the unit were held together by 4 screws and chromed, cheap rivet-type nuts. After a good concert, this construction was blown into pieces.
Later, for SDS7 use, they sold the pad without the diodes and the capacitor as a mono cymbal pad, making nothing better. Look? I would prefer these vistalite pads.
So: This is really only a collectors item.
If anybody is curious now, how to get a bell and a cymbal sound out of a single SDSV cymbal module: It is very easy. Take two normal pads and wire them in parallel (Pins 1 and 2 of the XLRs). Solder germanium type diodes (AA) between each piezo and pin 2 of the pad XLR, one of them reversed. If you hit one pad, the outputted signal will have a positive phase only, the other pad a negative. The effect on the SDSVs cymbal module is: One of the Pads will trigger a noisy trash sound called "bell", the other the eprom-based "cym". And our sequencer-based friends will not notice this effect ever.
Any collectors out there who want to trade a return flight Frankfurt - Bankok for two SDSV cymbal pads??? Economy is ok, may be the lucky winner can trade his miles-and-more for this ;-) ???

Have a nice day!
Michael
