portakit and SDX only work together via midi, but the Portakit does not support positional sensing as the SDX does. Although both provide FSR foils for triggering, the only reason why FSRs had been used in the Portakit was in order to avoid cross triggering. It's just the same as today's Roland SPD20: It also uses FSR
