Subject: Re: [Simmons Drums] SDSV pad XLR help

Hello Rob,
the pad XLRs are wired Pin 1 and 3: Ground and Pin 2: Signal. (The SDSVs outputs have their signal on pin 3). There has to be a resistor 1K (kiloohms) in parallel to the piezo. This gives a better sensitivity adjustment and less crosstalk. But the resistor makes it impossible to play the pad on other devices like Alesis or DDrum (but I am sure, nobody wants to do that ;-). So a good alternative is to solder the resistor inside the SDSV brain or make it switchable.
For normal electrical function, the polarity of the piezo doesn't matter. But it is better to use the metal disc as ground and the crystal side as signal. This is a better shielding, if you play on stage near a dimmer pack. If you have your pads already open, fill them with wool or wadding: Your bass player can play with his normal volume setting again.
Regards
Michael

Subject: [Simmons Drums] SDSV pad XLR help

Hello, I recently managed to get my hands on an SDSV brain, but
without pads. I have aquired some sdsV pads but unfortunatly the XLR
connectors have been removed and replaced with 1/4" phono connector.
I have bought some XLR connectors and I have just opened up the pads
to attempt to restore the XLR connectors and I haven't a clue where
to start!

I have looked around the group and it mentions that XLR on SDS V is
wired in a non standard way. I am a complete electronics novice, can
anybody help me please?

There are 2 wires from the piezo to the phono connector, and ideally
i'd like to take feeds from the phono to the XLR if this is possible
so that both outputs can be used. Can this be done, and if so how
do you do it?(Remember you are talking to an electronics idiot)!

I play a yamaha dtxtemeIIs kit but find the electronic sounds just
don't compare to the simmons!

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Rob
