My blurt:
The Uber-LVCO 7U panel on our site is a result of our compulsive leaning toward the ridiculous. It assumes including wave-shapers (fashioned out of MFOS VCOs) for the JH VCOs, and the counting dials, and standard large MOTM knobs throughout. Unnecessary, really. It also reflects a feature Will came up with that would allow linking and unlinking the individual VCOs from the "Driver" circuit.
And the size and complexity of our panel design, of course, also makes it very expensive - about $325 from FPE. Waiting for a panel is part of what's delayed our build - other factors being having the time to do it and buckaroos for the parts (it's a relatively expensive thing to build - although not so much, if you divide the expense by 3 to get an idea of how much per VCO. I think this comes out to around $325 per VCO including the FPE panel and assuming pricey Bourns pots throughout).
AS I recall, the panel as last proposed for Bridechamber consideration, included the counting dials and wave-shapers, but didn't have our kooky lines on it.
Also, as I recall, the main thing I liked about the counting dials on my Synthi-A was their cool-ness... it was 1981, after all. Truth is, the pots were so unstable that, in retrospect, I'm sure the dials were superfluous anyway. <g> In our design, we retained them for - well - yeah - coolth.
Eventually, We'll implement the module in our ridiculous way because we have a very specific idea of how we're going to use it completely pimped-out and all.
But this all said above, almost by way of a disclaimer - FWIW:
Dave's design is far more pragmatic. I'm sure the course / fine tune knobs idea is as good if not better than the counting dial idea. The small knobs make the gadget fit into less space. He doesn't have the waveshapers in there... they're not in the original JH circuit anyway. Dave's panel reflects a link-unlink feature he's calling "track," (right, Dave?) but there's an issue about how the PWM CV links to the VCOs that I'd have to re-look at to understand how Dave's implementation handles it - Idunno - our aim was to be able to use each VCO completely independently. But these are details. Looks great.
