Another way to look at it: you're getting 3 VCOs plus a waveshaper module in
7U. That's pretty comparable to other options for that amount of horsepower.

Yes - that's my position too - Will is more gung-ho on principle.

But you know - the wave-shapers could be made into a companion 2U module.

HISTORY:

See - I was blissfully proceeding down the 5U path when Will, pouring over
Jurgen's LVCO page, spotted Jurgen's mention of wave-shapers - that he
(Jurgen) was providing a place that the raw Osc. outputs could be hooked up
to waveshapers. Will even found mention in another forum's LVCO thread that
Jurgen had considered including waveshapers on the VCO board, but decided to
omit them because of space considerations.

So Will and I looked at the MOTM300s and discerned the waveshapers on that,
and had a lightbulb moment... why not implement Jurgen's idea using another
oscillator's PCB's waveshapers? So we rummaged around and found the MFOS
Osc. and figured out, in theory, how to do it.

It's untested, but we see no reason it wouldn't work. We consulted a couple
experts, and they concurred... but I'd have to look at our old email to
remember exactly who and what.

Probably we should ask Scott Deyo, Scott Juskiw, and Dave Brown to review
our idea for a final thumbs-up.

So let's all be forwarned, OK? I mean, it's not like Will and I have built
and tested the damned thing... but, again, with some fiddling about the
value of the input resistor to the CGS Osc. wave-shapers, it should be a
no-brainer. (we've done our best to chart this out on our LVCO page so we
wouldn't forget how we thought of doing it)

SO THE 2U COMPANION MODULE:

Another possibility we entertained was to put the 3 wave-shapers in a
separate 2U module. We just didn't want to do that.

But what does everybody think of that idea?

The down-side is that the LVCO just lays out better in 7U anyway and if
you're using 7U you have the space for the wave-shapers. So why not just do
the 7U.

Bill
