DXF is Drawing Exchange Format. It is used by AutoCad and many other cad programs as a neutral drawing format so different cad programs can exchange drawings without significnt loss of information.

If the filter does DXF to FPD conversion that would open up the use of many different cad programs on the PC as well as Mac.

I found this in the FAQ:

Which export filters are available?
We offer a filter to export Front Panel Designer files into files with DXF extensions.

The DXF export filter can be purchased for $148.00 by email from order@frontpanelexp ress.com or with the ordering program in Front Panel Designer.

I don't know what DXF is, but I'd guess this is it.
