The lasers used at one etching place I found are about 25K. They could sit in an small office space and be mistaken for a photocopier.

Everything is designed in Illustrator, and then converted to DXF or DRM files.

I'd love to do this myself (and be a bit of a competitor to you. Erm, not), but those industrial laser machines would hardly fit in my house. They're massive, plus they're fed by ginormous generators producing thousands of Watts. The laser can cut through solid 20cm alu panels like a knife through butter. It's really a specialized industry on its own, but I see those "laser factories" popping up more and more, so I think it would be worth investigating a bit.
