I answered the comment. If you want to solder in only one end of the
resistor and run a wire from the other end, you don't need to cut
traces. That's not mechanically sound and risks breaking the resistor.
I solder in both ends of the resistor with a wire under one end on the
top of the board.
For trace cutting I use an Xacto knife mostly. A Dremel tool with a
small cutting tip works, too.
