Subject: RE: Klee v2 sequencer Rotary design in process

From: THOMAS S WHITE <djthomaswhite@...>

Hi all,

(sorry if this duplicates guys!)

New photo added to the photo section in a new KLEE designs folder. I have been working on the KLEE sequencer rotary design this morning. I have an 8-space FPE panel in progress with an oval instead of a circle for the pots. Step 1 is about where 7 o'clock would be on a clock to start at the bottom and go up and around the oval. This is due to the sequencer functioning at either 1x16 or 2x8. I figure up and down looks better in duel mode that the appearance of forward and backward. Thoughts?

The glide knob in the upper left is where the random section knobs will go. Clock stuff will go in the lower left. The star washers are where the "load" and "manual" buttons will go. I think I have it coming along so far. The range section is going to be redone to incorporate Sduck's range suggestion from his panel.

What am I missing? What would you like to see? Send your thoughts since I will be working on this tonight and trying to finish up the original design. Maybe if this is liked by all we can pester Mr. Deyo to make them for much less than the $200 FPE price it is sitting at now...

Hey man,

Here's my work in progress. Have to leave for a bit just now, but will try to finish tonight. Thoughts so far? I still need to handle the load/random and range sections a bit better but progress is being made. Smaller alpha and PKES60 knobs.

this sooner rather than the planned later. Let me mull that over this
weekend. I want knobs too so I would go that direction. I was thinking
more oval width ways for the shape of the circle (ala Buchla) with
controls in the middle and around the corners. My one concern is the
difference in the LEDs and switches and how they fall inline with the
oval. Having experience with my rotary I don't mind, nor have I ever
had trouble with, the switches being to the side and in a different
shape than knobs. Thoughts?

Considering it's a whole new instrument almost, a new layout is just
part of the fun. The one consideration I've heard is that the load
switch is used a LOT, so having it centrally located and/or readily
accessible is a good idea, and having the switches removed enough away
from the pots so there's no accidental knob tweaks during switch
changing is a really good idea also.

jacks, sliders etc to be on the panel. Sean, is your panel "stock" in
this way? If so I could use it to base a new design off of. Here are
some questions for the group:

Yes, (assuming you meant me) my design is "stock" - no add-ons or
mods. The docs are freely available at electro-music- com, and the
interconect doc is the relevant one you want to make sure you get all
the right connections. The only real variable is the range
knob/switch/ jack arrangement - there are 4 options, mine is option 4,
which is the most flexible I think.

Yes, of course!

MOTM-type switches and jacks. Sound good?

Yes!

whole (19") rack width due to the overall "awesomeness" of this
sequencer.

Well, honestly the smaller the better. As I mentioned, I couldn't find
a way to mod your original design into a klee - too much extra stuff,
so you'd probably have to spread it out to 8u. But you have crazy mad
designer skillz that are beyond me, so whatever works!
