Hi Gang... It's been a while...
One of the last times I was here, was when Syd Barrett died. Since then we've lost a few friends... Boz Burrell comes to mind... but here's one that wasn't covered much when it happened... as a matter of fact, I didn't find out about it 'till a month ago...
For those of you who are fond of avant-guarde music, you'll be sad to hear that Gyorgy Ligeti, whose music was featured in 2001, and The Shining... among other movies... died in early June. He was 83.
Ligeti was probably one of the most listened to avant guarde composer's, because of the Kubrick movies he was featured in. Ligeti is one of the few "A.G." composers who "scored" his music conventionally. IMHO... Ligeti was a major influence in 20th century classical music... as well as other musical genres. As a matter of fact... Kurzweil's P-1000 module had a choir patch called "Ligeti".... I loved using it. In case you didn't know... Ligeti's son Lukas, is a well respected jazz percussionist... I believe he lives in NYC... so the Ligeti name lives on...
Goodbye Gyorgy... you'll be missed!
