Hi mellotron fans,
My new novel, When Hell Freezes Over, was released today. Why should you care? Here's why: it has a mellotron in it. Responding to prompting from Ken Leonard ("I really like your writing, but how come there are no mellotrons in your stories?"), from Martin Smith ("I like a book with lots of pictures -- preferably ones I can colour in!") and from one anonymous source ("No mellotrons? I won't read it, arse!"), I wrote my 5th novel with these complaints (or shortcomings, if you will) in mind. How do you fit a mellotron into mystery thriller? Well, you'll just have to buy the book to find out.
It's called When Hell Freezes Over and it's available (or will be shortly) from any bookseller in Canada, and internationally from the big online booksellers (amazon, etc.). It may take awhile to filter into their warehouses, but you can pre-order now.
For those of you who came to either of the two symposia we held here in Toronto, you may also recognize some locations and characters, loosely based on real people, of course.
For those of you near the Toronto area, the book's launch party is going to be held a bit later than is normal for these things: November 9th. Not only will there be the usual drinkies and food (and books for sale), but there will be music! We're dragging out the Mk2, some old friends from my band Devotion, Craig Collett of Coll Audio fame (and the model used on the cover of the book -- shamefully blocking my Mk2 in the background) and some other musical friends∗. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Let me know if you'd like an invite.
Thanks for letting me bend your ear!
Rick (Mk2 FX Console 10030 -- "Can't you leave me alone? I'm sick of doing exercises or at least take me down to the pub for a pint!")
∗I've told my classically trained wife she has to play the flute parts for "Nights in White Satin" and "The Court of the Crimson King". After an initial response of "I don't play that shit!", I told her that I'd ask Ray Thomas if he'd step in. She's now fully on board...
