So it looks like either they used both trons, or Dave Lambert is possibly confusing the two units because they bear a close physical resemblance.

This is an example of one of those mellotron questions we will probably never have complete answers to because the detail gets lost in the mists of time.

We have quite a few "who used what model tron on what track / when" questions don't we?

Another one is the Genesis / King Crimson tron. Did we ever find out definitively that the King Crimson / Genesis / England tron is the same unit? Ditto the Peter Sellers / Princess Margaret tron.

Seems like an entire subject within a subject. Perhaps for extreme fanatics only? Any takers?? :)

I came across a pic last night on their web site (is this the same pic as on the album?) of the Strawbs live at Drury Lane in 76 with the 2 keyboard setups. On the right there is definitely a MKV. It has the correct profile. The only pic I have of the wakeman double tron has more of an M400 profile at the top with a squared off lower section and not the sharply angled lower section the MkV has.

Hi all,

I had good fortune to spend a few minutes talking to Dave Cousins and John Hawken last night prior to a gig and I asked about the trons. Dave said they had the 2 M400’s painted black during most of the mid 70’s (one of which I have) but then said they also had one of the big twin manuals one’s as well. John nodded and said “oh yes that was the really heavy one”. I asked if it was a MkV and Dave yes he thought so. This was a bit of a surprise but unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to ask any more. Does anyone know if they did have a Mk V or MkII? If they did when did they use it? John is using the Pinder samples on stage but he blends them with something else.

Cheers

John
