Lots of my webhead friends mock me for the simplicity of my webdesign, but I
have received emails from people I've never met thanking me for having a
site that displayed properly on whatever machine they were using, regardless
of size, speed and vintage.

www.ictband.com is a good example - I just yesterday got an email from some
wanna-be webmaster telling me that he could make my site "cooler" with lots
of Flash animations and intense graphics so that all our friends and
groupies would be impressed. He completely missed the point. The site is
about marketing my band to the widest base without dramatically targeting or
turning off any particular democratic. Vanilla? Yes, but I can send anyone
to the site and not worry they will be offended, upset, or locked out by
lack of technology. Living here in Kansas where there's a lot of space
between the occasional outbreaks of "civilization" (such as it is around
here) I have learned that lots of folks here still do dial-up, often by AOL
or NetZero, and many of them are using Windows 98 or even 95! One way or
the other, it's wise to look out for your own best interests simply by
paying attention to the needs of your prospective clients.
