No Mellotron on any of the early stuff I listened to.  I only liked a very few of their songs, "Song For America" being the zenith for me.  When that album came out, I was a dead ringer for Phil Ehart's picture on the back cover and many people asked if that was who I was - that was a really, really long time ago.  The bassist I was with in my last band was an occasional fill-in player for the embryonic Proto-Kaw band before they finally got going and Livgren stopped in briefly at a performance of ours one night.  A real "brush with greatness."
 
What is the right amount of LSD, by the way?  I was never able to determine that...

speaking of kansas... did they ever use a mellotron?
[the band... not the state...]
i use to think about 10% of their material pretty interesting.
[in a pompous prog wankers kind of way...]

saw them once at a new years eve show here in philly at the
tower theatre [but under the influence of WAY too much LSD
to remember very much all these years later...]
