Subject: [Mellotronists] Theatrical Mellotron

Paul

Just finished a run of shows on my main gig with a musical theatre company. As the show was 'Annie' I made very heavy use of Chamberlin alto and tenor sax, bass clarinet and brass samples all from the Pinder CD-rom - perfect for that archaic 1930's 'American dance band' sound. Some favourable comments from other musicians - "For a keyboard, that's a very good sax..." etc.

This set me wondering... has anyone ever come across Mellotrons (or Chamberlins) being used for musicals or plays in the theatre (as opposed to use with rock bands etc. in concert)? I would be intrigued to know!

Best regards

The only ones I've run into are:

Beatlemania (US, '78) - Les Fradkin plays 'Tron (I think Les has posted to this list before).
Jesus Christ Superstar - unknown location, '70s sometime, played by Chris Goodey.
Rocky Horror Show (Australia, '74) - played by Roy Ritchie, apparently.

I haven't heard any of these, but I've been forwarded the information in all cases.
