Years ago I had a Mellotron, (the old sob story, I know, but it does get better), and made some basement recordings to several pop songs at the time. They were layed down on standard 1/4" tape,,,,mono. That tape deck they were recorded on has been defunct for amny years. Recently I purchased a nice deck, built a small studio and began laying these old tracks down on CD so as not loose them all together through natural aging of the tapes.
A about a year ago I purchased the Michael Pinder Mellotron CD. Loaded it onto my sampler, (Ensoniq ASR-10) and thought it to be very close to the original sound. Wrong,,,,again,,,. I tried laying down sampled Mellotron tracks next to my old ones and was let in on quite a surprise! The original sound from my old Mellotron could not,,,could not be reproduced no matter how I tried. EQ all around did not change my mind in anyway. Close...but no Cigar.
