Anyone here heard the 30th anniversary SACD of Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I've just bought it. It really is Captain Fantastic! The multi channel mix is rather good with excellent separation of the various instruments around the room.
I guess we are hearing more of what's going on. My suspicion is that some of the instrumentation on the original mix was either buried or even muted on the desk. It really is most entertaining.
BUT, what a complete xxxx up they've made of what little tron there was on the record. Everything else here has been re-eqed, cleaned, polished up to sound amazing, except of course for the funny little white thing sitting well down in proceedings. It's as if the guys handling the remix are saying... This things sounds awful. Let's bury it as much as we can and not spend any time trying to treat the sound in any way...Sounded much better on the original...Grrr...
Worth checking out though. As you can see, I'm torn on this one. Overall this version shows just how good SACD can be. It sounds as good, if not better than some new albums I've heard.
If only....
