When I think of some decent and memorable lyrics, early King Crimson
and Genesis come to mind. Especially with Genesis, the mystical
lyrics revolving around the ever-changing music really paint the
whole picture; very much in synch and engaged as a complete project.
What a fantasy. King Crimson deliver a bit more drama and chomp at
the bit at times "I smiled and just unzipped her" is certainly a bit
different than Anderson's contribution to Prince Rupert Awakes. It
works for me--depth, drama, beauty, intelligence & unforgettable.

Then there are the prog bands that are mired with wispy falsetto
relaying la la lyrics from la la land that seem to be a staple with a
lot of the second gen and newer prog bands. And of course there are
the great Italian vocalists singing in their gorgeous native language
which I don't understand, but just try to imagine Banco del Mutuo
Soccorso without Francesco Di Giacomo! The conversion to English just
friggin' RUINS these gems.
