Subject: RE: [Mellotronists] Trons in New Age

Richard really went through those 'trons! I got one of his also  - I answered an ad in the Recycler back in the mid-80's and went to his house in Granada Hills CA. Very nice person, had a new baby. His arsenal included (I think I remember) a JX-10 and an E-II or E-III, plus a Chamberlin for $200 and an M400 for $200. I bought the M400, but passed on the M1. Please. ∗don't∗ rub it in....

His 'tron had a Buddhist Mandala on the front lower cover, which I thought was quaint but promptly removed (sorry Richard!). There's still a circle in the paint where it didn't fade. When we did ProgWest last year, Steve Roach was admiring the 'trons and I said that one of them used to be Richard's, and he got a big smile on his face and said that he had carted that very 'tron up many a staircase back when him and Richard used to play together! He looked at it and said "Where's the Mandala?" and I showed him the circle in the finish.

For "real" Mellotron and Chamberlin, you have to stick to the early Burmer
albums as he sampled his instruments and then sold them, including the last
Chamberlin that Mr. Chamberlin had made.  I was too late to get the Chamberlin,
but I did get his last Mellotron. (-8
