Subject: [Mellotronists] Druid & tron? SchiozidRobFor "the does anyone know" category. I've been listening to obscure "prog" bands from the early 70s as of late, including Druid. Their keyboardist, Andrew McCrorie-Shand (who evidently went on to fortune and fame as the musical director of the Teletubbies), plays various synths on Toward the Sun. I believe there are shades of M400 on tunes like "Voices", "Theme", and "Shangri-la", but am not sure. I've got a OGWT (Whistle Tour) clip of them playing these first two songs, and while I can't make out the M400 for sure, there's a signature 3-strings sound. Anyone know?
McCrorie-Shand used their 'Tron on every track of 'Toward the Sun', quite heavily. I thought the 'Tron on the follow-up, 'Fluid Druid' sounded a bit weird, until Mr.McCrorie-Shand actually contacted me after reading my review of their albums to say that they used a real orchestra and choir, arranged to sound like a Mellotron! No, he's not sure why now, either...Andy T.
