I know what you mean! I was tweaking a Keeney valve the other day and the
main washer, the galvanized one ,not the rubber O-ring, has a franklin-type
key on it. Needless to say, I struggled like hell to obtain the correct
amount of torque before realizing the threads were reversed! Go figure.
