Subject: Re: [Mellotronists] TD tapes

<<I guess that means that the TD tapes are a one-of-a-kind custom mix>>

I got some of these frames (via martin) around the same time; they came from
a collector in germany. one set was peter baumann's, with the piano/tubular
bells split, while another was froese's from 1977 and had "orchestra", the
chisolm brass and the regular flute (there's a piccolo elsewhere in my
frames). the third was populated with sound effects on a mixture of 3/8" and
1/4". the 3/8" tapes had the same sounds on all three tracks, while the 1/4"
was two track. very odd. sadly, no sign of any of the loops they used later.

>>The String Section is a slightly duller mix than normal without the
distinctive growling Dbl. Bass in the...erm....bass.<<

as a fan of TD's earlier works rather than the virgin-period sequencer
workouts, the arch-druid wouldn't be so familiar with the prominence of that
double bass in the TD palette; needles to sew, we had to have one.

the same collection had a set that belonged to a certain swiss 'tronist, with
pre-recorded phrases and sound effects on some tapes. this is what makes
mellotrons so much more interesting than samplers.
more tape please.
