Days of Future Past didn't use the tron. That was recorded with a live orchestra. It was the next album "Search for the Lost Chord" where they needed a substitute, and if I remember correctly that is where they first used it. The story I read was that they producer, Tony Clarke, was supposed to record kind of a demo album with the orchestra, and instead he and the Moody Blues came up with Days of Future Past, recorded it, then laid it on the desk at Derum Records and said, "Oh by the way, here is the bill."

I think that Days of Future Past was recorded in early 1966. The SFF
Mellotron track was recorded in November 1966. Maybe they were both
released about the same time.
