Dear allI've just had a friend ask me about Genesis' 'Stagnation',
from 'Trespass', and whether I think it's
Mellotron mandolins on the intro and at about 6.11 into the song. I
can't offhand think of any other definite
use of the sound to compare it with. Any ideas?

Andy (and all),
I've always thought it was MkII mandolins. I have the sound on my FX
Console and it SEEMS the same,
but one never knows with these things, does one? Maybe someone seeing
Hackett can bug him about it!
By the way, the mandolin sound is a big hit at Italian weddings, along
with the Italian Accordian. (I'm not
kidding!) Fortunately, I don't have to do many of these gigs...

PS I REFUSE to play "Spanish Eyes" unless they pay a whacking great wad
of cash--up front!
That would Anthony Phillips, guitarist before Steve Hackett. This
question came up a couple of months back on RMP. I believe our own
Dickson of Dock Green laid the law down about it indeed being Mk II
mandos. Or if it wasn't him, "j'accuse"!
