Moreover they are punching rather than drilling
the holes which does seem inexpensive if a bit
crude. IIRC the polishing action of the bit in
a drilling operation leaves the hole wall relatively
smooth. Likely the ink is more tolerant of the
punch/shearing operation leaving a more irregular
wall surface.
