Subject: Clarification to our bellyaching

From: Steve Greenfield <alienrelics@...>

I don't want anyone to feel that they'll be ridiculed for asking
questions or that their previous efforts must be examined before
we'll answer.

One of the hard things about searching for information on the web,
in a library, in a dictionary, is that you need to know something
about the subject to find out anything about the subject.

My searches typically start with lots of almost random trawling
around, as at the start I may not have any idea what keywords to
use. I hope that at some point I'll run across more appropriate
keywords to narrow my search to what I'm looking for.

How many people would know what a ballscrew was called if they
didn't know already? Or what acme threaded rod is? I can look at a
vise or a mill table and see a threaded rod with funny threads that
looks like it'd be good for making an engraving table, but without
knowing what it is called a search of the internet is like looking
for the proverbial needle in a haystack, only while blindfolded and
wearing oven mitts.

So don't be afraid to ask questions. And if you want a complete
tutorial from zero, I'm sure we can find you links to get you
started.
