I agree totally on this. bare copper tips are horrible...
there is solder with 2% copper in it out there, with that they last much
longer.

Has anyone thought of galvanizing a tip with iron?
I read the solder tips are iron coated, maybe it is possible to make that
at home for very special shapes...
Not information available on galvanizing on iron...
I wonder why this is not popular ;-)
