Hi all pcb drillers,
I had the idea for a long time to use punch and die for making holes in pcb's.
Any people here can make or know someone who can make punch and die set.
I had the following sizes in mind 1 mm, 0.8, 0.6, 0.4, 0.2 mm ( 1 inch = 25.4 mm ).
The base can have the 4 holes and service as the die. The punches need to be made separately.
Thinking of a metal( steel ) bus in which a punch can slide and a spring to push the punch back after making a hole. The punches need of course to be turned at the right sizes, and tempered to hardness ( idem for the base.
I think a hand press can be made easily from aluminum or plywood. To make a hole from max 1 mm I do not think you need tons of pressure.
I bring this up to see what others think of this. I'm having my nephew making up some autocad drawings, which I will post if ready. I can give a hand draw concept later ( have to draw it first ...LOL )
These punches goes a long way I guess, knowing that we used sort like to make a square of 100 holes at once in a 4 mm aluminum compound metal, and the punches last for 1000's of punches ( this was with a 30 TON press by the way ).
Any thoughts as if this is feasible?
