Subject: Re: [Homebrew_PCBs] Which Drill stand for Proxxon FBS 115/E?

Hi Geoff,

I have a MB 140/S that I use with a Micromot 50/EF, and it works fantastically with carbide bits. I don’t have any experience with the MB 200, so I can’t compare them.

I made a PCB drilling setup using a webcam and a custom base that bolts to the 140/S that will easily allow me to drill holes within 1mil accuracy, if not better. Between the 50/EF and the 140/S, there is so little runout that I’ve never broken a single carbide bit. I would highly recommend both of them.

If it would be helpful, I’d happily send some photos of my setup, or of the boards I’ve made with it.

Brett

For those who use the Proxxon Rotary tools for drilling PCBs.

I am going to purchase the Proxxon 115/E to drill PCBs but do not know which drill stand to buy with it.

There are two that I can see online, the MB 140/S and the MB 200.

Has anyone got experience with either or both of these stands?

If so, which would you recommend and why?

The reason I ask is that I have been using a Dremel rotary tool with collets and carbide bits and the bits are always breaking. As a result I have used flexible HSS bits to avoid the expensive breakage of carbide but it is hard on these drill bits and can blunt them easily on one board (100 holes approx.)

I measured the runout on the Dremel and it was about 4/1000ths of an inch on the main collet holder, but on the drill shank in the collet it was a whopping 15/1000 ths!  No wonder!

Therefore I need a better tool!

Any advice would be welcome.

Geoff.
