Am I missing something here? Seems to me, if you go through the trouble of using dry-film to mask off the pads, why not just use the dry-film soldermask and forget about the Vitrea 160?

Because I have dry film resist, not dry film soldermask.  The dry film resist does not really work as a soldermask very well.  Dry film soldermask (dynamask) is more expensive and harder to get.
