The method described in the link is for conformal coating, not as a solder mask substitute.
To protect against corrosion, first clean the board thoroughly with IPA (isopropyl alcohol), then seal it with a coating. Look on the web for Humiseal 1B31 for a good aerosol with excellent protection.
