I have the FBS-240E tool. Never used the 12v one so can't comment on those.

The fence on the base can be moved and even removed. If you need even more space, you could remove the whole base and mount the rest of the stand onto something else from above, leaving nothing in the way underneath. ie: gantry style mounting as in a CNC router.

It seems pretty good for carbide bits. As I said I only broke one so far and that was my own fault. I moved on to those after the cheap HSS ones I first got wore down.

If you're worried about snapping carbide ones easily, you could try titanium coated, but I guess they still wouldn't last as long as carbide.
