How did a laserjet 4 manage to die - those things are like tanks!
Some people say the Brother printers don't work because the toner has a
higher melting temperature, some say you can soften the toner by leaving it
in acetone fumes after you print it, then transfer it, and some say it
works just fine. Probably depends on the type of paper you're using, and
the temperature of your laminator.
